Unit 2 - Part A
YOUR PROJECT AND LEADERSHIP ROLE
I think a good leader is good at building and keeping relationships. They listen and validate what others are saying and are empathic. Going from what I have learned I feel they are also good at changes and even failing. Bouncing back from challenges and keep going to their goal. I think they will motivate others and be clear with communication. Making decisions is key but also listening to the team.
I am hoping to learn how to adapt to change and listen to everyone’s ideas not just my own. I hope to motivate the team and praise my team members – boosting their confidence. I also want to develop being able to make decisions.
My overall aim is to market our art exhibition and to display our individual work to the public. In order to achieve this, we would have needed to complete the ceramic challenge.
My responsibility will be Marketing Manager therefore in charge of advertising the event.
In order to achieve our objective, we will need a space to collaborate together with laptops and a whiteboard. For marketing we will need a recording device, paper, pens, design programmes and possibly mobile phones. I think because this is a creative role it will really help me to expand my leadership skills and be positive. I believe due to creating posters, invitations I will need to share my ideas and communicate effectively. I also will need to listen to the team regarding my ideas and direction.
My role as marketing manager is related to the other roles because I have to present their ideas in an appealing way to attract interest. I will be working with Rose, Penny and Charlotte on this project. Rose is the overall manager so her role is to make sure that we are all doing our jobs correctly. Charlotte is in charge of the design of the exhibition room is very important because it sets the mood for our artwork. Penny’s role is very important also because she has the role of photographer, which is very helpful because charlotte is planning to hang pictures from the ceiling showing us creating our pieces overtime.
To help us learn a bit more about being a leader, we had an interview with Genevieve, the gallery manager at nucleus arts. During the interview Genevieve told us about what her job entails, such as working with various artists to create exhibitions which as she said can be difficult especially when there are multiple artists wanting a venue. A very helpful thing that Genevieve said was that although listening to others can be hard, once you have learnt how to being a leader will become much easier. I was very grateful for this advice as listening to others ideas is the main thing that I would like to improve on during this project.
